February 19, 2008Top 10 All-Time Favorite Albums
The past few years, I've met lots of people who've had very diverse tastes in music. We've shared lots of tunes, opinions and have gone to tons of concerts together. All in all, I realized that my personal musical taste was pretty damn siiiick and that I should be proud of what I like! I've decided to make a list of my 10 favorite albums to date. These are tracks that I can listen to and just never ever get sick of. Some are classic, some are cheezy, and some are just plain crazy choices (according to some), but nonetheless, here are my picks in no particular order, yo!
10) Ray Of Light - Madonna ![]() I know, I know. The MADGE! Probably not the best way to start this list (haha) but I just had to. Don't hate me! This was one of the first CDs I ever purchased, I think I was about 10 or 11 years old. This album is crazy, she sings in hindou and dedicates a song to her daughter, and basically it's just a strong, girl power album that totally came at the right time. I wanted long blonde hair so badly. Favorite track: "The Power Of Goodbye" 9) Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers ![]() Discovered RHCP thanks to my friend Elyse. She introduced me to lots of great bands when we were kids... (see rest of post). I think this is when my generation really became aware of them though, especially thanks to songs like "Scar Tissue" and "Californication" which were huge MTV hits. When I was in high school, in my little world, nobody really listened to them except for me & Elyse, so I thought we were the coolest people ever. Definitely loved this album because of the energy. I still feel really good every time I listen to it. Favorite track: "Porcelain" 8) Meteora - Linkin Park I pretty much LOVE every single LP album out there, but this one has the biggest number of awesome tracks if you ask me. I saw them in concert in 2004 and am going to see them again this week, because they are so awesome and give a crazy show. I'm totally infatuated with these guys, and have been for as long as I can remember. I bought their first album because "One Step Closer" was an addictive hook that kept playing on MTV, and found myself actually enjoying their different style. God, I seriously love them. Favorite track: "Faint" 7) Celebrity Skin - Hole ![]() Haha, before they went to shit and Courtney totally ruined herself... Words cannot express how much this album = greatness. It's something to listen to when you're a wannabe-rebel girl, I guess. Either way, I was always so jealous of Courtney's amazing body (at the time) and really sad when I noticed that Melissa Auf Der Maur went straight to Billy Corgan's feet. She be from Montreal, too, yo. Sniff. Favorite track: It's a tie between "Celebrity Skin" and "Heaven Tonight" 6) Morning View - Incubus ![]() I don't think it's possible to have a more chill rock album out there. I was going through a really confusing time in my life when this album came along... I was ever so grateful that I had the lovely Brandon Boyd to keep me company in my sad moments! Once again, they have such a relaxed and unique vibe that I'm attracted to, it's hard for me to get sick of that. Mmmm. Favorite track: "Wish You Were Here" 5) Neon Ballroom - Silverchair Another great oldie that Elyse introduced me to when we were about 12 years old. Oh how I remember our depressed phone chats fueled with emo wishes. Well, Silverchair totally rocked at helping us deal with our hate for the world! When I hear this album, I still remember every single lyrics of every single song, even after 8+ years. Reeeetarded! Poor Daniel was going through a hard time too, apparently... this album is so depressing, but the music is so good it's addictive. Favorite track: "Miss You Love" 4) Finding Forever - Common ![]() Thanks to my friend Keoni and a little movie called 'Smokin Aces', I realized that Common is full of talent and yummy physical features, too! It's great that he talks about more than just he-said she-said crap in his songs. And his stuff with Kanye is solid gold, imo. I know, I know... lots of people will say "HOW COULD YOU. This is so not his best album." but it's the one I got to know the best, can't blame me. I only really started enjoying rap and hip hop in 2007 so for me it's an intense achievement. Be proud. Kthnx. Favorite track: "Southside" 3) Satellite - P.O.D. Sadly, they are not nearly as great now as they used to be, but P.O.D. will forever stay in my heart. They've kind of disappeared and it makes me sad. Their new stuff better be the shit, or I'll be uber disappointed. Another band that has a unique sound and who are socially conscious, yet can still carry a love song or two in their repertoire. Need I recall their incredible success "Youth Of The Nation"? I think they did amazing with that song, it really touched everyone and said something. Much like Linkin Park's Meteora, I like almost all of P.O.D.'s albums, however Satellite has the biggest number of songs I enjoy. Thus, 'tis my fave! Favorite track: I pretty much love every single little song on this album, but if I really really had to choose, it would be "Thinking About Forever" 2) Return of Saturn - No Doubt ![]() Once again, I know this isn't their best album, but it's my favorite! Come on! Gwen went pink! Their songs are all about her breakup with Gavin! IT MAKES FOR GOOD LYRICS, DUDE! At the time I was just infatuated with her style and the groovy beats of this album, but as I grew up I realized that I could totally relate to the lyrics. I remember going to hell & back just to be able to buy this CD and then when I got it, something was wrong with it, and it was skipping, and I was so devastated. Thank God for Napster. (I know that sounds really baddd...) Favorite track: "Simple Kind of Life" 1) Nirvana - Nirvana ![]() I know it's just a compilation, but it really does hold most of their best songs. Sadly I was among those who learned about Nirvana only when it was too late, and was angry with the world because now I couldn't look forward to new Nirvana stuff, I could only revel in their past goodness. I started obsessing with Kurt Cobain and the whole stigma surrounding his death. Only I was a little under 10 years too late. So unfortunate. Favorite track: "The Man Who Sold The World"

December 11, 2007Sunday night's concert = madnessSo this past Sunday I got to attend a really awesome gig at Studio Saint-Laurent, in Montreal. Shiny Toy Guns performed live! The two opening acts were AMAZING as well; Liam and Me, and CLAASS (who are from Montreal, woo!); I had such a blast. My friend took pictures, I'm just waiting for her to send them over. Hotties all over the place... these bands contain some major cuties. ;) Can you believe that my heart almost jumped out of my chest when "You Are The One" started playing???? YEAH. In another note, I'm secretly praying for AFI to come back here... but I'd have to look into it I guess. Davey I love you, why can't you stay... :( Alright enough fangirl-isms out of me!
